That’s why this week, we’d like to introduce you to drama student and health food lover, Alexandra May (@alexy.may). Alex is a dedicated #GirlBoss who motivates us to eat wholefoods and maintain an exercise routine despite the BB team’s busy schedules (and excuses!). She’s a creative on stage and in the kitchen, who’s always baking healthy and innovative treats that are loaded with flavour and good-for-you ingredients. Definitely breakfast!

How do you practice self-care when you’ve got a busy schedule and minimal time for yourself?
I am very good at planning ahead and sticking to a routine.



Favourite Banting BLVD product?
Although I am not a Banter, I use many of the products to assist with healthy eating. Some my favourites are most probably the #BBNoBake almond and chai balls – perfect for a snack on the go, and the cinnamon porridge.

As an actress, what do you do to feel confident when performing?
Rehearse, rehearse, rehearse. Have a positive mind and vibe!

What’s the first thing you do when you wake up?
I make myself a cup of green tea with lemon.

Favourite health food stops, shops and restaurants?
Banting Blvd, Woolworths, Tasha’s, Oranjezicht City Farm Market.

What’s your go-to snack?
Green apple with almond butter.

Any tips on exercise and healthy eating while traveling?
Pack in your running shoes and healthy snacks like nuts, biltong and fruit so that you have something on hand. Eat regularly and stick to low carb food. It’s easy to do!

What are some of your pantry staples?
Honey, almond butter, chia seeds, dates, cinnamon, Carb Clever granola bars, Banting Blvd No-Bake almond and chia balls, cinnamon porridge, Carbsmart Extra Virgin High Omega oil, Carbsmart mayonnaise and Banting Blvd ground almonds.

Do you have a morning or nighttime routine? What does it look like?

The first thing I do when I wake up is have green tea and lemon, then I head off to gym. After, I eat a healthy breakfast and have coffee before facing the rest of the day. I always end my day with green tea in bed!


RECIPE: Banting Blvd cinnamon porridge muffin
Ingredients
1 egg
1/2 banana
1 tsp nut butter of choice
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 tsp Honey to taste
30 g Banting cinnamon porridge
1/2 apple bits
Dash of milk of choice

 

Method
1. Preheat oven to 180’C. Grease a muffin tray with butter, coconut oil or use muffin cases.
2. Blend all the ingredients in blender except the apple bits.
3. Add the apple bits to the mixture and stir until mixed through.
4. Pour the mixture into greased muffin tray.
5. Bake for 10 minutes, or until golden brown.
